TRENTON, New Jersey, April 6, 2006 – Robbinsville High School, the innovative new public high school designed by Spiezle Group, Inc. and recently completed in Washington Township, New Jersey, is featured in the March/April issue of School Construction News.
“It’s great to have one’s name mentioned in the right places,” said Scott R. Spiezle, President and CEO of Spiezle Group, Inc. “The respected industry journal School Construction News is certainly the right place for Robbinsville High School to be published. We’re delighted that the publication chose to feature our project and Washington Township’s great accomplishment.” Robbinsville High School is the first high school constructed in rapidly growing Washington Township in Mercer County, New Jersey.
Using the idea of town or village as a guiding metaphor, Spiezle Group architects organized the building around a two-story, sky-lighted, central circulation spine defined as “Main Street” and bounded by the Commons/Cafeteria wing. Four classroom wings extend from Main Street at both levels. Four classroom wings extend from “Main Street” at both levels, forming smaller academic units, each with its own faculty work and meeting areas. The Main Office, Media Center (complete with adjacent courtyard), Student Services, and School Store are all located along “Main Street,” with the Auditorium and Gym set on opposite sides of the Commons. Nearly every room in the building can be reached by a single turn off Main Street.
The 220,000-square-foot high school also includes a multimedia performance and auditorium space (available for community functions), as well as the latest technology and facilities. The 1,000-seat, cherry-paneled auditorium features an orchestra pit and two-story fly space and is equipped with state-of-the-art sound/acoustical and lighting systems. A unique and whimsical terrazzo tile pattern floor is based upon the unique designs of M.C. Escher, whose mathematically derived graphics serve as “concrete” integration (figuratively and literally) of the core curriculum.
