Through a series of strategic interior renovations, Spiezle worked closely with the District to reimagine key spaces throughout the school, enhancing learning environments, strengthening student support services, and fostering a greater sense of connection and school pride. Rather than expanding the school’s footprint, the project focused on unlocking the potential of existing space, using program-driven renovations to increase functionality, flexibility, and student engagement within the existing building.

At the heart of the transformation is a renewed focus on future-ready learning. The media center was reimagined as a dynamic hub for collaboration, independent study, and technology-enabled learning. Designed to support multiple learning modes, the space incorporates a variety of settings for focused work, group interaction, and informal instruction while maintaining visibility, acoustical separation, and security.

Adjacent to the media center, a new E-Sports and digital lounge provides students with a dedicated space that reflects the growing role of technology in education. Featuring integrated gaming stations, display technology, contemporary lighting, and school branding, the technology-rich environment supports teamwork, digital literacy, competition, and student engagement while giving the program a recognizable home within the school. Enhancements to STEM classrooms further expand opportunities for hands-on exploration, creativity, and problem-solving, helping prepare students for success in an increasingly technology-driven world.

The project also prioritized student well-being and access to support services Within the counseling suite, an obsolete stair was enclosed and repurposed into a conference room and administrative offices, strategically reclaiming underutilized space to improve privacy, staff collaboration, and the delivery of student support services. Renovations to the nurse’s office further enhanced the school’s ability to promote student health and wellness in a comfortable and functional environment.

Throughout the building, spaces once viewed as limitations became opportunities to strengthen community and connection. New café and gathering areas help alleviate overcrowding while creating additional places for students to eat, study, and socialize. These flexible spaces support learning and connection beyond the traditional classroom, giving students more opportunities to gather throughout the day. In the school’s “Respect Corridor,” the removal of unused lockers made way for a student cove, transforming a pass-through space into a welcoming destination for informal interaction and reflection. This simple intervention turned an underutilized area into a space where students can connect, pause, and feel a greater sense of belonging within the school. Upgrades to the gymnasium further reinforce school spirit and provide an enhanced environment for athletics, events, and community engagement.

The true impact of the project lies in its ability to bring together a wide range of District priorities into one cohesive vision. By making better use of existing space and aligning it with evolving educational programs and student needs, Spiezle created greater flexibility, connection, and long-term value throughout the building. The result is a student-centered environment that exceeds the sum of its individual improvements.
