Modern Workplace Design Tells the Story of an Organization and Its People, Published in Work Design Magazine

In an article published in Work Design Magazine, Spiezle Associate Principal Jill DiClementi, NCIDQ, discusses how modern workplace design can align people, purpose, and performance while supporting culture, collaboration, and employee well-being. She explores how thoughtful workplace strategy helps organizations create spaces that are not only visually compelling but also operationally effective, inclusive, and designed to evolve.

“A thoughtful workplace strategy begins with discovery: listening to the client, understanding work patterns, and evaluating how teams interact and use space. Engagement often includes interviews, surveys, utilization studies, and workshops to uncover opportunities for improvement and innovation.”

The article highlights key workplace design priorities, including flexibility, belonging, human-centered design, activity-based planning, acoustic comfort, integrated technology, sustainability, and data-informed space planning. DiClementi explains that the most effective workplaces are shaped around how people work, connect, focus, restore, and engage with an organization’s mission.

“Ultimately, the workplace tells a story about an organization. Every corner and detail carries its own identity and purpose, and together they bring an organization’s mission to life,” DiClementi writes.
